Food Production Forecast for 2010
With economic recovery now in sight, we expect that the focus in the food industry will be growth. Sustainability issues continue to be of primary importance and GHG will be a considerable factor for the food production industry.
A recent study by the Agriculture Department anticipates that farmers with energy-intensive crops could see their production costs increase nearly 10 percent over the next 50 years. And considering potential cap-and-trade programs for GHGs, many will be closely evaluating and exploring opportunities to profit from these new rules.
We also expect the pace of construction projects to accelerate in 2010 with environmental permitting needs, especially air, to be on the critical path of these efforts. Additionally, companies will be expected to invest in tracking, measuring, and improving sustainability. Look for an upcoming case study that demonstrates Dixon Environmental’s efforts with tracking sustainability indices at multi-site operating companies.
