Energy & Renewable Resource Forecast for 2010
Proposed energy projects using wind, biomass, geothermal, landfill gas, trash-to-energy, hydropower, and solar resources will be widespread and will greatly expand in 2010 due to The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the Energy Policy Act of 2005, and Executive Order 13423, which are challenging industries to develop and use clean and renewable energy resources while creating and retaining jobs.
The licensing, permitting, and connectivity issues that are required for these projects are not trivial, and, in most cases, require lengthy case-by-case and “out-of-the-box” assessments by regulatory agencies, which may hamper project timelines and financing commitments.
Additionally, in 2010, we expect that the pace of construction projects will accelerate, with environmental permitting efforts, particularly air, taking prominence. Further, projects involving GHG emissions will be under increased scrutiny and require that companies evaluate and adopt C02 reduction strategies.
