Batch Organic Chemical Manufacturer

Dixon Environmental’s systematic approach to MON compliance, outlined in the 10-Step Action Plan, enables the effective management and implementation of MON strategies at complex facilities.  Dixon Environmental recently assisted a batch organic chemical manufacturer with the data collection and analysis of approximately 170 HAP emitting products which were produced by approximately 140 MCPUs.  Most MCPUs at this facility incorporated non-dedicated equipment.  Available data for key processes was collected and documented in the Applicability Assessment and Compliance Guide for use in identifying optimal compliance strategies and future incorporation into the Notification of Compliance Status Report.

Currently, Dixon Environmental is collecting additional samples for finalizing emissions estimates and analyzing data to complete Group 1 / Group 2 determinations (10 Step Action Plan, Step 6).  These activities include wastewater stream sampling, working with facility representatives to finalize process vent emissions estimates, and analyzing and testing existing control equipment to determine what is needed in order to meet the MON standard, particularly, in order to assess whether or not additional controls are required.  Dixon Environmental provided budgetary estimates of compliance costs (10 Step Action Plan, Step 7), and recently kicked off a Feasibility Study and Engineering Design project in order to assess capture and control equipment options and to document a comparative analysis of compliance strategies at this facility.

The keys to achieving the optimal MON solution for your site on schedule include:

  • Following an organized and systematic process as detailed in the 10-Step Action Plan,
  • Employing an integrated approach encompassing regulatory compliance and engineering design,
  • Effective collaboration,
  • Providing adequate resources (budgets, manpower, etc.), and
  • Effective planning and project management.
